He is widely considered America's best living film director, and his "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" appear frequently on worldwide surveys of the best films of all time. Here, in the first biographical account of this artist's life, Vincent LoBrutto traces Scorsese's Italian-American heritage, his strict Catholic upbringing, the continuing role of religion in his life and art, his obsessive love of cinema history, and the powerful impact that the streets of New York City had on his personal life and his professional career. Five most formidable movie mobsters
LOS ANGELES - There was no shortage of films made about gangsters over the years, their power and audacity to take an understandable fascination with Hollywood and movie fans.
But some gangsters are more dangerous than others. One of the most famous of all is James "Whitey" Bulger, the boss of the Mafia in New England who was captured last week after 16 years as a fugitive, and that helped inspire Jack Nicholson character in the film by Martin Scorsese's 2006 Oscar winner "The Departed."

He was always loved, quoted and parodied, and rightly so. Brando's work is nothing short of iconic, and it earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor, which he would not accept famous in protest. See, the Academy made him an offer he could not refuse. Ba-dum-bum.
