  1. A Classic Film Score
This sountrack is just as fresh today in 2003 as when it was released on L.P. so many years ago. Some of Burt Bacharach's Best Work. You'll notice "South American Getaway" has been recently been used on SBC commercials.
  2. Marks the end of an era magnificently
For many, 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' is the quintessential 60s movie, portraying a couple of lovable, free-spirited rogues whose lives end in glorious defeat. (It was immensely popular in England, perhaps because we try so hard to be good losers!)It's virtually impossible to divorce...

15- Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (Original Score) by Burt ...

Original music composed by Burt Bacharach.

Personnel: BJ Thomas (vocals).

Bacharach score for this Paul Newman / Robert Redford classic is probably his most famous film, because it contains the instant standard "Raindrops Keep Fallin 'On My Head". "Raindrops" as equally infectious "On A Bicycle Built For Joy" is sung in the film by BJ Thomas. The rest of Bacharach's score is equally impressive, slyly echoing the great scores of westerns of John Ford for 40 years in much the same way the film plays with the conventions of the genre.

"Not Goin 'Home Anymore" in particular, has the elegiac feel so integral to westerns, while "South American Getaway" has a bossa-nova groove more in keeping with the time the film was shot . Though Bacharach is justifiably the most famous as Songsmith, his film scores are equally impressive, with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid standing as one of its most beautiful.

Classic Films Revisited: Call Them Irresponsible

I say this because without the electrified chemistry between leads Paul Newman and Robert Redford the picture would not have succeeded at the box office, nor would we remember it today as a classic example of Americana. Irreverent, rambunctious and largely devoted to a commonplace, jocular and mutually debasing form of male friendship – call it “buddy-ism,” if you will – the movie is a failure in everything other than the intangibles associated with its unique and irrepressible tone. This judgment might seem harsh, until one scratches the surface of what is ultimately a very superficial film. I mean, for starters, it is not much of a Western. Or at least, we can think of several better Westerns from the same time period without much effort. Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West , to name just one titan, is released less than 365 days before Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Sam Peckinpah’s...
