Belfast Giants add Hutchinson and LeBlanc to roster
The Belfast Giants have signed British defenceman James Hutchinson and Canadian centre Derek LeBlanc.
Hutchinson arrives at the Odyssey after a successful year, playing 53 games with the Peterborough Phantoms in the English Premier Ice Hockey League.
The Tynemouth player has represented Great Britain several times.
LeBlanc joins from the Central Hockey League's Rapid City Rush, where he became a huge fan favourite, scoring 70 times over the past three seasons.
He was part of the CHL Championship winning season for the Rush in 2009/10, scoring another 9 times on their journey to the play-off title.
Hutchinson notched up an impressive 44 points with the Phantoms, including 6 goals and 38 assists.
"We are expecting him to provide depth and energy to our team," said Giants coach Doug Christiansen.
"He's looking forward to improving and realizing his potential next season with the Giants.
Leblanc lonely at hockey office - Grande Prairie Daily Herald ...
O hockey players, where are thou?
That's the question Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association executive director Lorna Leblanc is asking, with just three weeks remaining before late registration fees kick in.
"It's terrible! Really slow!," Leblanc told the DHT on Wednesday.
"We have 200 in, but we should have about 300 by now. The (early bird) deadline is August 19."
Not that she is overly concerned. Grande Prairie has a reputation of being a "last-minute" city. Apparently that includes all things hockey. Leblanc saw the evidence first-hand, earlier on this summer.
"I know I was talking to the guys from Black Elk Hockey Camp, and two weeks before the camp, they were freaking," she said, of the hockey camp at Coca-Cola Centre all this week.
"But then it sold out and now they have a waiting list. It's a typical summer thing. A lot of people are still away on holidays."
Leblanc is confident that, when all is said and done, the association will hit the expected numbers of somewhere between 900-1000....
