Jennings trades guitar for piano on latest release

"Minnesota," Jennings' latest, moves away from that style and is the first album in several not on Johnson's label.

It's more grown-up, which makes sense because Jennings is all grown up, too. Here, he sings about lost love and settling down and plays more of an adult instrument, trading in the guitar for more piano.

We caught up with Jennings while he was on tour, which will bring him to Omaha for a solo performance at Slowdown.

Q. Where are you tonight?

A. I'm in San Francisco. I'm at the Fillmore tonight.

Q. How has the tour been? Any highlights?

A. It's been really, really good. We got to go to the Redwoods yesterday, so that was really cool.

Q. I've heard from Omaha fans of yours that are excited to see you.

A. Great. I'm playing solo on that date because the band couldn't do that date. The Pines, my opening band, might come out for a few songs.

Q. Do you do a lot of solo dates?

Primed and Ready: I Wanna Rock!

, A game that allowed you to be a rockstar. A rockstar with a small plastic guitar featuring nothing more than five buttons and fans that consisted of a few 3D models (and possibly the people in the same room as you, admiring your button-bashing skills), but a rockstar nonetheless. The game became an instant classic and spawned an entire series of sequels. If I’m not mistaken, we’re up to the sixth Guitar Hero I, myself, have never bought any of these games, I must admit. Passing by the store, I always saw the game leering at me, calling out to me, wanting me to buy it, but I managed to resist the siren’s call. I did play the game often at a friends house, and I always had tons of fun, actually believing I was a rockstar. Boy, what a stupid sight that must have been. An even more stupid sight must have been when I downloaded Frets on Fire . I saw it in a second-hand game shop and said to myself, why the hell not....
