. Again, considering the age of some of these songs, it's remarkable how much they resonate. Gibbons sings about loneliness and despair almost as well as Thom Yorke, and her voice is a strange yet perfect fit for the gritty, woozy beats that surround her.
The problem here is that music this personal and delicate is best experienced on one's own. Sitting in the midst of a massive crowd seems antithetical to the Portishead experience. The majority of the audience watched in pious admiration of Gibbons' virtuosity rather than dancing up a storm. The somber tone was broken only at the show's end, when Gibbons broke character completely and ran down along the front row touching hands with the audience. This moment was surprising and incredibly touching, especially given the fact that Gibbons is extremely agorophobic. For her, this seemed like a moment of true catharsis -- her appreciation of so many peoples' ability to relate to her music leading her to overcome her fear, if only for a moment.

Denon’s AH-D1100 is a wonderful headphone offering both punchy warmth and superior detail retrieval in a portable closed-back design.
The Fit & FinishThe AH-D1100 is an extremely comfortable headphone to wear. They are noticeably light considering the size and offer a well-padded over-the-ear design. They manage to passively block out a fair amount of outside noise, but are not active noise cancellers. The ear cups swivel to allow for easy storage. Thankfully, Denon includes a carrying pouch for storage and traveling purposes, making the Denon a very fine choice for those looking for a great over-ear for their portable player. The D1100s can deliver ear-splitting volumes directly out of the iPod. Denon does however include a ¼ inch adapter for those looking to listen out of headphone amplifier or home receiver. If I had any complaints, it would be that the D1100 has a less-than-rugged feel about them. This may have to do with how light the headphone is in proportional to its size.
