Brand New Opry season opens Nov. 17
The Davis Theatre’s popular Brand New Opry bluegrass show will open its 2011-12 season Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre at 65 Union Street S, Concord, in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse.
This version of the show hosted by local bluegrass sensation Jeff Whittington will feature opening act Old Rusty Mandolin and the Brand New Bluegrass Boys with guest artist Ben Watlington. Tickets are $10 plus applicable fees and available 24 hours a day online at www.CabarrusArtsCouncil.org at the Davis Theatre box office Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in person or by phone, 704-920-2753. Tickets are subject to early sellout.
Old Rusty Mandolin is a trio originally formed five years ago when core members Jordan Minor, who plays guitar and banjo and sings, and Ben Culbreath (whose dad John is a regular on the Brand New Opry), who primarily plays electric bass but also drums, mandolin and guitar as needed, were in fifth grade. That is not a typo! The two boys will be joined by Emma Ruth Teague, who writes some of their songs, sings and plays guitar and keyboards. These very talented young people will show our audience that the future of local music is bright.
