First bass -- instrument 'isn't for wimps!'
Susan Wulff and Evona Wascinski were born in Sacramento and Szczecin, Poland, respectively, and came to their music careers in markedly different ways. But the two are quick to agree that mastering their chosen instrument requires a unique dedication.
“Playing the bass isn’t for wimps!” said Wulff, the associate principal bassist for the San Diego Symphony, as jazz and Latin-music bassist Wascinski nodded in agreement.
A joint burst of laughter followed, as the two playfully illustrated Wulff’s assertion during a recent photo shoot. As each musician held their respective basses — which measure more than 6 feet in height and weigh up to 40 pounds apiece — they flexed their well-toned arms with exaggerated flair.
“When kids ask me about playing the bass, I tell them they’ve got to practice every day and that it’s not an easy instrument,” Wascinski, 33, said. “People think it looks cool to play, but it’s a lot of work.

Godin Best Pirces: Godin Redline Electric Guitar (Black HG RN)
The Redline HB features Godin's own ferocious humbucker pickups housed in a string-through, silver leaf maple body with poplar wings. The rock maple neck is super-fast, with ergocut rosewood fingerboard and 24 super jumbo frets. Simple electronics and solid hardware complete the package, for a no-frills axe that's ready to deliver.

Godin always takes a unique approach in their tonewood selection, and the Redline HB is no exception. Like many of their instruments, this one's constructed from a blend of two woods--a silver leaf maple center with poplar wings. Add the string-through design and it all adds up to mountains of sustain.
Rock Maple Ergocut NeckThe guitar's 24-fret rock maple neck, with a rosewood fingerboard, is extremely fast and comfortable to play.
Every Godin neck features an Ergocut shaping technique which bevels the edges of the fingerboard and frets back in towards the center of the fingerboard, providing an extremely comfortable worn-in feel.
