Master Musician Wallace Coleman Will Blow Your Blues Away
Wallace Coleman, blues harmonica legend, will share his musical gift with us again at the Lakewood Public Library, Sunday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. The show will feature compositions as well as older tunes from his latest CD, "Blues in the Wind:. Remembering Robert Lockwood Jr." He has traveled the world playing the harp, but Wallace Coleman is back in Cleveland and still to play songs that reflect his legendary life and preserve the spirit of the pioneering blues label of the 50s and 60s Chess Records.
Coleman was born in Tennessee, a state where country music rules the airwaves yet, but from his youth he remembers listening to late night blues on WLAC Nashville station. The songs of musicians like Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin 'Wolf and Muddy Waters became touchstones and musical influences to the development of Coleman. Many of these recordings feature the guitar playing of Robert Lockwood Jr., with whom Coleman would eventually hand countless scenes.

They’re also helping to head up the Inland Empire Blues and Roots Festival, which is set for the Fender Center in Corona on Sept. 10 and will feature Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, Big Papa and the TCB, Kelly McGuire, Jumpin’ Jack Benny Blues Band and the Cold Comfort Blues Band.
