Extremely helpful!
As a beginning guitarist with essentially no formal background in music, I find myself frequently at a loss to understand the structure of the music that I'm playing (why is this an A chord and why is that a D?). This book is absolutely outstanding in explaining the nomenclature and structure of... -
Excellent Basic Reference Book
This book is a fine chord reference book. It does not just throw a flurry of different chords at the reader. The book starts off with a lucid introduction to the theory behind chords played on the guitar. If you are looking for a basic chord reference book, this is a real good one. A novice or...

Is it possible to have a hit song with just an acoustic guitar and let's just say 5 or 5 simple chords? Could I go big with just that as long as the song is good?
Of course. Look at Hey There Dililah by Plain White Tees. They only have Dmaj, F#min, Amaj, Gmaj, and Bmin. They only have a repeated finger picking pattern. How about Sweet home Alabama? It's only three chords over and over. House of the Rising Sun uses only five chords and

, Plus a Roky Erickson cover and a fan-favorite B side. These were raw, ragged versions of the familiar tunes, with none of the albums' ramshackle psychedelic orchestration: just one guy on stage, punching out fast chords on acoustic guitars, tapping his foot and singing out in that singular voice. Suffice to say that Mangum, who recently turned 41, hasn't lost any of his vocal power in the intervening years. By the time his hour-long set ended with a cathartic "Holland, 1945," most everyone was joining in.
After a two-song encore with the house lights back up again, Mangum flashed a huge grin and walked off – stopping for a split-second as he left to look back at an entire auditorium that had risen to its feet. The crowd went on cheering for a few minutes more, as if they could will him to return and keep playing for another hour. He didn't. But after a year in which Mangum has proved that he is every bit the uniquely compelling performer he was in the Nineties, it's starting to seem wildly, wonderfully reasonable to hope that he'll be back before long.
Guitar Center: Could A Hit Song Have Simple Acoustic Guitar ...
Some of the biggest hits recorded have simple melodies and only few basic chords. Most of Rock and Roll is just based on three chords. The Beatles and Bob Dylan are great examples of simple yet brilliant chord structures: ‘Here Come The Sun’, ‘Let it be’, ‘Knocking on Heavens Door’, Blowing In The Wind’
Here are a few more massive songs with very simple structure:
‘Folsom Prison Blues’ – Johnny Cash
Of course. Look at Hey There Dililah by Plain White Tees. They only have Dmaj, F#min, Amaj, Gmaj, and Bmin. They only have a repeated finger picking pattern. How about Sweet home Alabama? It’s only three chords over and over. House of the Rising Sun uses only five chords and it’s been used numerous times. My favorite song has only three chords repeated over and over with solos, drums, singer, and all that good stuff. Never give up! But I should let you know if you’re a beginner guitarist, then become an intermeddiate. Play for another 2 years, then you can think about becoming popular....

It would be difficult to imagine a guitarist achieving a much lovelier, more disarming version of Cy Coleman's "When in Rome" than Malone offered early in his show. His playing leaned so heavily toward cycles of warmly stated chords that you almost had
