If I wanted to learn to play the electric guitar, would I have to learn to ...
No. You could learn to play an electric without learning to play an acoustic.
It isn’t terribly hard, but you do have to toughen up your fingertips, especially if you play a steel string guitar. There are probably stores where you could rent a guitar while you start learning, and that would allow you to take a few lessons and practice without actually buying one.
you can do it either way, but my guitar teacher says that the electric guitar is easier to play, so acoustic is better to learn first. He says that it was a breeze to play the electric guitar after learning to play the acoustic. Another guitar teacher told me he preferred electric. I guess it really matters on ur opinion. But i prefer to learn the acoustic, cause it’s harder to press down the strings cuz they are soo thick and electric is easier to press down. So i say that u should pick the harder so then it will breeze to pick up on the electric.
