Excellent Place to Start
I bought this for my younger son. I've been playing for 20+ years and remembered that the nylon string guitars were easier on the fingers. Because there's no value in turning my son off to music, this feature is important. (Another reviewer points out that it doesn't stay in tune; that's true,... -
Perfect Guitar for toddlers!
My son just turned 4 and he loves this guitar! My husband has many guitars and has been playing for years and he thinks this is a good one too. Seems like good quality, nice nylon strings that work just like real ones, and the perfect size for my son.

Possibly under $100, but definitely under $150. I'm not a beginner student; I just would like a portable guitar for travel. Thanks!
Martin and Chacquito both make backpack guitars that are sturdy and portable. They both will fit in an overhead bin in an airplane. Used 100-150.

Michael Giltz: Music: Revenge Of The Seventies Singer-Songwriter!
KATE & ANNA MCGARRIGLE -- TELL MY SISTER ($25.99; Nonesuch )
Ah the 1970s, the era of the singer-songwriter. Earnest and tuneful people could be found in coffee houses all over America, strumming their guitars and pouring their hearts out. It was a style easily derided by those who prefer their rock and roll "harder." But it proved a wellspring for countless artists who have endured and flourished. Four new reissues remind us of that period. All of the artists included here began before the Seventies and/or had tremendous success after it. Like all major talents, they encompass a far greater range of styles and influences than one tag like "singer-songwriter" can signify. But the 1970s was a great decade for all of them and the music on these releases proves it.

I began researching guitars when my son asked for one for Christmas. I found a lot of "toy" guitars but review after review said that they wouldn't stay in tune or didn't work well. I ended up purchasing this guitar and it's wonderful. It has a nice sound to it, stays in tune well and is basically a real guitar that's half size as opposed to a toy guitar.

The Byrdland's 23 1/2″ scale is also unusual, being more typical of a student guitar than a pro instrument. Why call it a Byrdland? It was named after jazz guitarists Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, for whom the guitar was originally custom-built

The tune begins just with the sound of his acoustic guitar, then slowly a steel guitar joins in and then brushes on the drums, with piano and more to come. In its own quiet way, this makes the song feel as big as a Phil Spector production,
